It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we share some very sad news with our Totoka Lodge family.
After much consideration, and due to deeply personal family circumstances, loss and bereavement of her Son, Totoka Lodge will be closing its doors as of 11th September 2026.
This decision has not been made lightly. Totoka Lodge has been so much more than a place for us; it became a happy paradise and a safe space for many. It has been a place where people have come together, where friendships have formed, where laughter has filled the arena, and where meaningful connections have been created.
Our adaptive sessions have always been designed to support physical, emotional, and social development. Every session has been guided with care, support and understanding, and tailored to everyone. We have always believed in creating a safe and welcoming environment where confidence could grow, independence could be encouraged, and everyone could experience a true sense of belonging. We have seen firsthand the remarkable power of connection and the incredible difference that can make.
During this incredibly difficult and sadness-filled time for our family, I ask for your understanding, kindness, and compassion as we navigate a loss that has deeply affected us.
On a very personal note, I would like to thank every person who has given their time, effort, care and support to our lodge family. Every one of you has, in some way, helped enable this beautiful experience, offering positivity and happiness to many lives something that many may not have been able to experience without your assistance and support. The laughter, the connections, the friendships and the memories created along the way have been truly remarkable. There are simply not enough words to express how grateful we are.
To our participants, families, support workers, staff, volunteers and everyone who has been part of the Totoka Lodge journey, we thank you. Thank you for trusting, supporting, laughing, smiling and allowing us to be part of your lives. Although this chapter is coming to an end, the connections, memories and friendships created at Totoka Lodge will remain in our hearts forever. This is not the goodbye we ever imagined having to say, and our hearts are incredibly heavy as we write these words.
Take with you Paula's personal motto, which has always been, "just make it happen." We hope you will carry those words with you through your own lives. When life feels uncertain, when challenges stand in your way, and when something feels impossible, remember to take a breath, believe in yourself and say, " just make it happen."
With all our love, we hope that a little piece of Totoka Lodge — and Paula's spirit of determination — stays with you always.
Please be understanding during this difficult time and know that your kindness and support mean more to us than you could ever know.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of the Totoka Lodge family.
With love, gratitude and sadness,
Totoka Lodge,
Sincerely Paula

''Amazing place with awesome staff who support people who have a disability to ride horses. People with a disability not only ride horses but brush, help with saddles and reins while learning about horses.''

''My daughter is absolutely loving her lessons here! I cannot thank the staff enough for being so patient with her and teaching her all things about horses. The love she has for horses is undeniable. Thanks again to the amazing team at Totoka Lodge for making my little girls dream come true!!!
Rachael Dickens
My daughter goes from a "velcro kid" who won't answer questions her allied health team ask her, to a little chatterbox who is happy to leave my side and go with the engaging staff at the lodge to work with one of their beautifully natured horses. Could not recommend Totoka Lodge more highly!
